Game 2: Yankee Stadium
Eldred vs Burnett
The
longball would be the key in this contest. To start the bottom of the
third, Nick Swisher and Jorge Posada hit back-to-back shots off Carl
Eldred to give the Yankees a 2-0 lead. Burnett would hold serve until
the seventh, when he started to come unraveled, giving up two singles, a
walk, and a run. Brian Bruney got the final out of the inning and
Jorge Posada answered in the bottom of the inning with another solo shot. In
the ninth Rivera again came in to close, and when Jose Valentin hit a
solo home run off him it meant some anxious moments, but he got Chris
Singleton to ground out to secure the save. New York wins 3-2 to leave
the Bronx with a 2-0 series lead. WP: Burnett LP: Eldred S: Rivera
